My Story
It all started with a coffee table-
I was young, money was tight, and I needed a coffee table to go along with my hand-me-down couch. Everything I liked was out of my budget, and I made that oh so foolish statement, "There is no way it costs that much to make that!" I had some basic hand tools (also hand-me-downs), and there were a few wooden pallets by the dumpster where I worked, so, without any plans (YouTube hadn't even been thought of yet), I made my first piece - the ugliest, sketchiest, most basic pieced together impression of a coffee table to ever hold a TV remote. That was all it took; the hook had been set, and I dove headfirst into learning everything I could about woodworking and design.
First and foremost, I learned that making my own furniture was definitely not the way to save money. I'm positive I could have purchased a whole showroom of coffee tables back then and come out ahead, but the joy and satisfaction I got from designing and building were priceless, and having a unique hand-crafted piece was just the icing on the cake.
I no longer have that coffee table, as I said; it was pretty sketchy, and it did not survive one of my many moves those thirty-some-odd years ago. It was not my best piece (that one has not been made yet) or even one I'm proud of, but it was my favorite; it was the piece that started it all.
